At South Norwood Community Kitchen, we use unloved food to bring the community together. Everyone is welcome and we hope to reach some of the most in need with a free three course lunch. We decide on the morning what we’re going to cook with surplus food and do our best to use everything! Start the day with nothing and end up with nothing.
We get a lot of rice so this was recipe was driven by finding a way to use up out surplus food in the cupboards. The ingredients above are indicative only, and this can be adapted in so many ways, so frankly use what you have and adjust to taste.

One of the best ways we find to use up surplus food is by making soup. A bit like having children we often find that straight up veg isn’t the most popular, but blitzed seasoned and presented nicely, we get through all the veg and shoehorn tonnes of nutrients into the meal.
